5-1 Mascot at UHCLMeet a special guest at University of Houston-Clear Lake’s 24th Annual Chili Cook-Off April 6, noon – 4 p.m.

The first “flight” or appearance of the official Hawk mascot costumed character will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m. during the event at the university’s north lawn, outside of the Student Services and Classroom Building, 2700 Bay Area Blvd.

“UH-Clear Lake’s Chili Cook-Off is a popular tradition that attracts students, faculty, staff, alumni and area residents, so it offers the perfect opportunity to present the UH-Clear Lake Hawk costumed character to the university community,” says Mascot Leadership Team member and interim Dean of Students David Rachita.

Student organizations and university offices will be serving a variety of chili dishes made from their own secret recipes. The family-friendly event will feature a DJ to keep the beat going, karaoke for aspiring rock stars and amusements for kids of all ages.

Chili-Tasting Kits are available for $4 to those with a UH-Clear Lake I.D. and $5 without. Awards will be presented to first, second and third place chili teams, best booth, popular vote and more. In case of rain, the Chili Cook-Off will be canceled and the introduction of the Hawk will be postponed.
