Temporary closure scheduled at Ellington Recycling Center

Houston City Councilman Dave Martin would like to announce that the General Services Department and the Solid Waste Department will be installing a solar LED light fixture and a CCTV security camera at the Ellington Field/Clear Lake Neighborhood Recycling Center, beginning Tuesday, March 27.

The recycling center will be closed to the public on Tuesday, March 27 as there will be heavy drilling equipment on site. There will be limited access to the site on Wednesday, March 28. The recycling center will resume normal hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Thursday, March 29

Once this week’s work is completed, contractors must wait approximately one month for the concrete to cure before installing the light pole. Little to no activity will take place at the recycling center during that time. In May 2018, contractors will begin erecting the light pole, installing the light fixture and solar equipment thereafter. The project is expected to be complete by June 2018.

Since being sworn into office, Martin has been contacted by the community regarding the condition of the recycling center and the illegal dumping that continues to occur on-site. The goal of this effort is to combat illegal dumping while providing security lighting.
