Courts warn about scams

August 1st, 2016

MCD_logo_wTagLineIt has come to the attention of the City of Houston Municipal Courts that companies are using text messages to solicit services.   The text message requests the citizen to click on a link to reset their case(s) for a fee.

The Houston Municipal Courts does not send text messages or charge citizens to reset cases.

We, along with the Houston Help Line, continue to receive phone calls from citizens who have responded to unsolicited text messages in an effort to resolve and/or reset their court case(s).   Because this service is not affiliated with our court, there is a chance that citizens’ cases could be negatively impacted.

“If you receive a text asking you to pay or to reset your case for a fee via a text message, please note this was not sent by our court.   We encourage citizens to contact our Houston Help Line at 713.837.0311 or visit our website at www.houstontx.gov/courts, the Honorable Barbara E. Hartle, director and presiding judge of the Municipal Courts Department, said.

Rules and guidelines on how to handle any of your court business, including instructions on how to reset and pay for your case(s) along with downloadable forms, are available to you at no charge on our website at www.houstontx.gov/courts. To speak to someone regarding your court cases, please dial 3-1-1 or 713.837.0311, if outside Houston city limits.
