That essay led to a 10-year relationship with the Chronicle and the publication of over 400 columns and editorials. In 2009, he released his book, Saving Face about the savings & loan industry in the 1980s. In 2015, King published a compilation of his columns in Unapologetically Moderate.
Throughout his life, King has had a strong interest in a wide range of social, environmental and political issues. In 1996, King was elected to the Kemah City Council. He later served as mayor of Kemah from 2001-2005 and was also a candidate for mayor of Houston in 2015.
King’s passion of helping fellow citizens has landed him to serve on the boards of Interfaith Ministries, the Galveston Bay Foundation, Texas Southern University, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Fire Fighters Foundation of Houston, Memorial Hermann Foundation, Houston Methodist Debakey Heart and Vascular Center Advisory Council, CYCLE, the HISD Foundation and many others. King has also been recognized in many awards for his leadership and achievements. Keels & Wheels Uncorked will honor King for his dedication to Houston and its people with a gift presentation during the event.
Guests are invited to mingle alongside Master of Ceremonies Sam Malone for an elegant evening of fine wines and exceptional food presented by some of Houston’s finest restaurants. Malone is a long-time radio host, Keels & Wheels supporter, and owner of 512 New Media, Houston’s cutting-edge media creation company.

- Grotto Ristorante will be paired with a 1973 Ferrari Dino
- Mastro’s Steakhouse will be paired with a 1924 Bentley Speedster
