CCISD schools open Monday, Sept. 11

The Clear Creek School District is extending its closure of schools until Monday, Sept.11 and is requesting staff report to work on Thursday, Sept. 7.

“We know our schools are the heartbeat of our community and the sign of normalcy is when we have our buses back on the road and our hallways bustling with children,” Superintendent of Schools Greg Smith said. “We are grateful for the army of employees, contractors and volunteers who are working to clean up our schools and get them ready for students.”

Many of the district’s schools suffered water damage. This extended time will allow for restoration, as well as more time for employees and families to work through their personal situations.

“The recovery efforts started immediately with more than 80 employees, contractors and architects leading a comprehensive assessment of each school and soon expanded to teams of hundreds,” Director of Facilities Paul Miller said. The majority of the damage involved roof leaks, and there were isolated areas in some schools that had rising waters.

The school district, and its partners, have successfully launched CCISD Cares, a resource center for families in our area. The center has clothing and shoes for youth and adults, hygiene products, and school supplies. CCISD personnel are ready to help families who are temporarily displaced within or outside our school boundaries. “We do anticipate enrolling students who live in other parts of Texas but have found shelter in our district,” Smith said.

The CCISD Cares center is located at McWhirter Elementary, 300 Pennsylvania Ave. in Webster. It is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Sunday. If people cannot get to the center, they can call 281-284- 4831.

The school district will adjust curriculum pacing to ensure all educational materials are covered throughout the remainder of the school year. The Texas Education Agency is offering waivers for affected school districts. The district will apply to waive the missed days, meaning the district will not have official makeup days.
